Recent developments in Miami-Dade’s film industry highlight the success of enhanced film incentives initiated by Sen. René García earlier this year. Two significant television productions are paving the way for increased collaboration with foreign nations on co-productions in the area.

García’s “High Impact Film Fund Program” provides performance-based rebate grants for feature-length films, made-for-TV and streaming movies, as well as TV and streaming series that promise a substantial return on investment for Miami-Dade County.

“The improved film incentives have attracted two major projects to our area,” García told Miami Today. “These projects have already invested approximately $12 million into our local economy over the past few months, creating jobs and benefiting small businesses. Additionally, local students have found employment through these initiatives. This program is definitely a step in the right direction.”

Among the notable projects are Netflix’s new series “Pulse,” which focuses on doctors and hospitals, and “Dexter: Origins” from Paramount Pictures, exploring the backstory of the infamous serial killer Dexter Morgan.
