Developers Set To Create Miami’s First Supertall Neighborhood, Paving The Way For The Tallest Skyline In The U.S. Outside New York
A wave of development is transforming Miami, with over six developers racing to build the city’s first supertall skyscrapers, a feat that has eluded it for over a decade.
Currently, seven towers over 984 feet are under development, including the 1,049-foot Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences, which has already begun construction. This growth is fueled by an influx of wealthy newcomers and businesses, bringing billions into the local economy despite Miami’s environmental challenges. The towers are clustered within a single square mile, potentially creating the tallest skyline in the U.S. south of New York.
“Miami is the center of the global real estate market right now,” said Dan Kaplan of PMG, who has been involved with the Waldorf project for nearly a decade.
The demand for luxury condos, with prices exceeding $4 million, is helping justify the expensive construction.
While previous attempts to build structures taller than 1,000 feet have failed, the city is home to Florida’s tallest building, the 868-foot Panorama Tower. Recent trends show increasing interest in taller projects, driven by limited land and an influx of wealthy investors.
Upcoming projects include a 1,049-foot tower by RFR Realty at 130 Biscayne and One Bayfront Plaza, also aimed at 1,049 feet. Additionally, the Miami Riverbridge project will feature three towers, with one planned at 1,044 feet. On Brickell, One Brickell City Centre will rise nearly 1,000 feet, alongside Citadel‘s headquarters at 1,032 feet. JDS Development and Dolce & Gabbana are also collaborating on 888 Brickell, a unique branded condominium-hotel.
