Citadel Founder Ken Griffin: ‘Miami Is Unequivocally One Of The World’s Great Emerging Cities’

Ken Griffin, billionaire founder of Citadel, is optimistic about Miami’s future, calling it “unequivocally one of the great up-and-coming cities” globally.

In a newly published interview, Griffin praised the city’s energy and outlook.

“Miami is one of the most fun places you can possibly imagine living in,” he said. “What’s wonderful about being here is you go to dinner and talk about the future. The optimism is infectious.”

Citadel now has hundreds of employees based in Miami, including top executives. According to Griffin, none of the relocated staff have requested to move elsewhere.

Addressing concerns such as high living costs and limited school availability, Griffin acknowledged these as common challenges in fast-growing cities—adding they’re far preferable to the issues faced by declining urban areas.

Griffin is also developing a new supertall headquarters in Brickell, which he described as “one of the greatest office buildings built in the world.” The skyscraper will house not only Citadel, but also private equity and law firms.
