Amazon Grows Miami Office To 75K SF

Amazon is growing its presence in Miami even before officially opening its first office there.

The company has expanded its lease at Wynwood Plaza by another 25,000 square feet, bringing its total office space in the development to 75,000 square feet, according to developers L&L Holding Company and Oak Row Equities.

Amazon initially leased 50,000 square feet in January after reports surfaced that the Seattle-based tech giant was looking for up to 80,000 square feet in Miami. This expansion comes roughly two years after Amazon founder Jeff Bezos relocated to the city, where he has spent $237 million on three luxury homes on Indian Creek Island, a private enclave near Miami Beach.

Wynwood Plaza, located at 95 Northwest 29th Street, is nearing completion and recently received its certificate of occupancy. The 12-story, 1 million-square-foot mixed-use campus includes 509 apartments, 25,000 square feet of retail, and 266,000 square feet of office space.

Amazon joins other notable tenants at the campus, including law firm Weitz & Luxenberg, taking 18,000 square feet, and Claure Group, the investment firm led by former SoftBank executive Marcelo Claure, which will occupy 25,400 square feet. Both Claure Group and Shorenstein Investment Advisers are investors in the project.

The lease negotiations involved a team from L&L and Cushman & Wakefield representing the developers, while Savills brokers represented Amazon in the deal.
